Vignobles Siozard White Bordeaux Duo
I had a total and thorough geek out moment while visiting with David Siozard in Bordeaux last year. I've spent many a week in Bordeaux over the last year and a half, most of it scratching my head trying to figure out why the region and its wines are still so popular. I'm finding most of it boring, uninteresting, traditional, and tired.
But on this day, David changed my mind.
David and his brother Laurent are twin brothers and the owners of two wineries that you may recognize--the Chateau Lapinesse in Graves and the Domaine du Claouset in Entre-Deux-Mers. I love everything they make and I really don't see the need to continue looking for more Bordeaux wineries. You all might agree. Their wines have been really popular since we began offering them. They give us exactly what we need - succulent white Bordeaux, rich reds, and stunning sweet wines.
With this, ahem, Duo, I give you a bottle each from the Siozard vineyards.
Chateau Lapinesse Graves Blanc Sec 'Cuvee Prestige' 2016--White Bordeaux is a game of hit and miss. It's easy to taste 25 before finding one like this. And it's unusual too, made purely of Semillon--yielding a wine of honeyed intensity, fresh citrus blossom, and a whiff of salt air. The Siozards age the wine for a year in old barrels in order to give richness and weight. David likes it best.
Domaine du Claouset Bordeaux Blanc Sec 2017--Thi is a shockingly delicious wine--a wonderful blend of Sauvignon and Semillon, with small doses of Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle. Finding a tasty little gem like this is why we do what we do. When we first tasted this wine with David we were sure it would be 50% more spendy than turned out to be. This would be Laurent's choice.
